Tree Planting and Maintenance

When you buy Prime Protect eyewear, Prime Protect will be planting and maintaining on your behalf a native tree in an Atlantic Forest recovery area. Prime Protect will inform you in reports emailed a few days after purchase confirmation about the location, species, and development of your respective trees.

The forest recovery process of Prime Protect's tree planting is directly monitored by the Brazilian Forest Institute (IBF). The rural residents of the region are hired to do the planting, with technical support from the IBF. As rural workers are also hired, eyeglasses also have the social value of generating income in the countryside.

For two years, technicians maintain the plantation (control of invasive species, pest control, replanting if necessary) to ensure recovery effectiveness. After two years, the recomposition is monitored annually to ensure not only the visual recovery of the landscape, but also the reconstruction of ecological processes that maintain the plant dynamics, so that the restored area is sustainable over time and fulfills its role of neutralizing and offsetting carbon emissions while conserving local biodiversity.

Each forest recomposition seeks to use seedlings with the largest possible diversity of native species in the region. Its species are determined a few days after purchase confirmation, and will be one of the following native species to the region. Native forests are planted in accordance with scientifically-based guidelines, such as Resolution SMA-030 of May 14, 2009, which directs voluntary forest restoration projects to offset greenhouse gas emissions.

The assessment and monitoring of areas under restoration encompass broader aspects than just the physiognomic assessment required by the relevant environmental agencies.

The offsetting of CO 2 emissions through tree planting aims to contribute to the environment by restoring degraded areas, conserving biodiversity, protecting water resources and combating global warming.

Benefits of Prime Protect Tree Planting

  •     Recovery and conservation of degraded areas of the Atlantic Forest;

  •     Fighting global warming - trees absorb carbon during their growth;

  •     Conservation of biodiversity - native species of the region provide food and protection to other species of flora and fauna, generating a complete recovery of that ecosystem;

  •     Maintenance of environmental resources - such as water, soil, and climate;

  •     Raising Awareness  - about the importance of forest restoration;

  •     Behavior change in the corporate environment - entrepreneurs and employees are sensitized about the importance of the issue;

Recycling and Environmental Compensation

In addition to planting trees, Prime Protect practices reverse logistics equivalence through environmental packaging compensation, mediated by the eureciclo seal. Environmental compensation is made for between 200% and 400% of all packaging. The box is also recyclable and can be disposed of in recycled waste by the consumer, to help remove even more packaging from the environment.
